I am very proud to announce that Slavica Hristomanova-Mitkovska, MD, MSc. has been appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief for South East European Journal of Immunology (SEEJIM).

Slavica Hristomanova-Mitkovska obtained her medical degree from the Medical Faculty of the “Ss. Cyril & Methodius” University in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia in 2004. In 2008 she became a teaching Assistant in Immunology and Human Genetics at the Medical Faculty in Skopje. The teaching activities included practical work and educational seminars given to medical students, nurses, physiotherapists, and logopedists on the topics of immunology and human genetics. In 2015, she completed her Master of Science degree at the Interdisciplinary Program for Cell and Molecular Medicine of the same institution, entitled “Total, group-specific and IgE-specific to food in patients’ sera referred for allergy testing in the Republic of Macedonia”. From 2004 until 2020, she was employed as a practicing medical doctor and a young scientific researcher at the Institute of Immunobiology and Human Genetics, Faculty of Medicine in Skopje. During that period, she was actively involved in the scientific work of the Institute of Immunology and Human Genetics, participated in numerous projects, workshops and seminars, was a lecturer and part of organizing committees of numerous congresses and seminars. Daily routines involved application of in vitro allergy testing (concentration determination of specific IgE antibodies) and autoantibodies and tumor marker investigations, as well as functional phagocytosis tests. She implemented protocols toward DNA isolation and subsequent genotyping of different genetic polymorphisms (cytokines, HLA, KIR) using methods such as PCR, reverse line strip typing (RLS), and sequence specific priming (SSP). In 2019, she enrolled at the Georg-August-University in Goettingen, Germany and started working on her doctoral thesis “In vitro analyses of CD4-protein function in dedifferentiated keratinocyte cell lines” at the Institute of Human Genetics, Medical Faculty, Goettingen, Germany. She is a section editor (deputy editor-in-chief) of the Open Access Macedonian Journal of Medical Sciences and a member of European Federation for Immunogenetics, European Academy for Allergology and Clinical Immunology, Macedonian Society for Basic, Clinical Immunology and Allergology. Dr. Hristomanova-Mitkovska is an author and co-author of more than 20 titles published in domestic and international journals. As of 2023, she is the Editor-in-Chief of the South East European Journal of Immunology (SEEJIM), a top-tier open access medical science journal published by the Scientific Foundation SPIROSKI, Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia.   

Slavica started in her new position as Editor-in-Chief on January 1, 2023.
